Old Inverlochy
Castle

Incredible history on your doorstep

As it’s right here in Fort William, you’d be mad not to have a wee explore of the ruins of one of the most important castles in Scottish history.

One of very few remaining Scottish castles from the 1200s, the remains of this formidable fortress are well worth a visit – especially of you like your history served up with plenty of fresh air!

Built by the lords of Badenoch and Lochaber in around 1280, the castle was captured by Robert the Bruce in 1308 after he overthrew the Comyns.

You’ll find Old Inverlochy Castle off the A82, 2 miles north east of the cenre of Fort William.

The ruins are unmanned, free to visit and open all year round – our kind of place.
