CHRISTMAS
IN THE HIGHLANDS

A magical time of year to see the Scottish Highlands

22nd November 2022

Cosy winter nights, twinkling lights, snow-capped mountains. What better way to spend Christmas than in the scenic Scottish Highlands? Kick off this festive season right by waking up to fresh, Highland air as you take in the winter scenery. Sit in awe of the stunning Northern Lights and enjoy a Christmas the family won’t soon forget!

Why make your next staycation a luxury winter retreat in one of our Hot Tub Lodges? Popular all year round – the warm, bubbly waters will keep you toasty even on the coldest night, allowing you to relax with your loved ones and admire the snow-capped peaks by day and starry skies by night. Just make sure you have a large fluffy towel at the ready to wrap up as soon you jump out!

Christmas Feast

Planning on cooking up a storm this Christmas?  We’ve rounded up all the nearest shops and supermarkets, whether you’re cooking up a feast in your well-kitted out kitchen, or rustling up something simple – our fully equipped self catering accommodation has you covered. Prefer to skip the washing up? Enjoy the festive menu at our on-site café, serving up delicious Christmas bites, homemade goodness, hot drinks and more.

Things to Do

Open all year round, why not take the family on a Christmas day walk to the Glenfinnan Viaduct? This breathtaking piece of engineering makes for a stunning backdrop to your family photo. There are a few good winter walks in and around Glen Nevis, along the banks of Caledonian Canal and miles of tranquil forest trails. The perfect spot for a winter stroll!

Indoor Activities

If you get bad weather at this time of year it doesn’t mean your holiday is a non-starter – there’s loads to do in Fort William come rain or shine. We recommend (for starters): Three Monkeys Indoor Climbing Centre, bowling at the Nevis Centre (there’s a Soft Play there too), swimming at Lochaber Leisure Centre, Treasures of the Earth Museum, or the Highland Cinema. Or of course you can just cosy up in your accommodation with a Christmas film or favourite family board game and enjoy some quality time together while the weather does its worst.

Snowy Slopes

The winter season at the Nevis Mountain Range usually runs from late December – April, making Christmas and New Year the ideal time to get away for some Scottish snow sports action! (Season varies depending on conditions.) If you’re not a skier or a boarder but still want your fill of snowy scenes – no worries! The Nevis Range Mountain Gondola is an incredible activity in itself, reaching heights of 650 meters up Aonach Mòr, the 8th highest mountain in Britain. Take in the incredible snowy views and breathe in the crisp Scottish mountain air.

With so much on your doorstep, Fort William makes for the perfect festive location for guests looking to celebrate the season. So don’t miss out, book today to secure your accommodation for the festive period and use Highland Holidays as your base to explore the local area this Christmas!
