Climb Ben Lui

Tackle this mighty Munro

Craggy, steep, and snow-capped; Ben Lui is a mighty Munro with vast views over the Southern Highlands of Scotland – and a 100% must-see when staying with us at Tyndrum Holiday Park.

It is the most famous of four Munros that lie south of Glen Lochy and north of Loch Lomond. Whilst particularly stunning in the winter, Ben Lui is also good-looking all year round, with views that look even more handsome during those early summer mornings.

Where is it?

Ben Lui is a quick seventeen-minute drive from Tyndrum and there are several routes you can take to tackle the climb, each varying in difficulty.

The shortest ascent is from Glen Lochy to the east. Adventurers eventually get to a path that leads up through the forestry and onto the northwest ridge reaching the summit. This easy route can be taken either on foot or by bike – whatever floats your boat (or cycles your bike). The mountain can also be ascended through a longer, more scenic route from the northwest along Glen Cononish.

Not Just a Pretty Face

Ben Lui has five prominent ridges poking up from the summit, making it easy to notice. Four corries sit between these ridges including Coire Gaothaich – the mountain’s most celebrated feature. The peak also offers views over the Arrochar Alps to the south and the mountains of Glencoe to the north.

Ben Lui is said to have a grand, dramatic and imposing north-facing profile, and yet a gentle and unpretentious look from the south, making it an enormously gratifying peak to master.

The Ben Lui range of peaks used to be a National Nature Reserve – which is enough to give you an idea of its beauty. The low levels of soil acidity lead to a flourish of mountain plants; saxifrages, mosses, lichens and more.

It’s a rewarding and picturesque climb that is just on your doorstep here at Tyndrum Holiday Park! So why not give it a go?
