Top Trails in Tyndrum

We’ve made a list of the best, most scenic trails you can take around Tyndrum when you’re staying with us, so you can enjoy the stunning scenery as much as we do.

Tyndrum is overshadowed by the great Ben Lui and is nestled neatly within the Trossachs National Park. There’s no question that the town is encircled by an abundance of natural beauty in the form of woodland, lochs and wildlife.

Queen Elizabeth Forest Park

Just over one hour away in the car from Tyndrum, this woodland was designated as a forest park the same year Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953. The park is surrounded by Loch Lomond, the Trossachs Hills, Loch Katrine, and Mountain Strathyre. As a huge 50,000 acre stretch of woodland, this makes for a beautiful spot to spy a range of different wildlife; including osprey, buzzards, peregrines, red squirrel, deer and badgers.

Either kayak or canoe on a choice of Loch Drunkie, Loch Achray, Loch Ard or Loch Katrine (or all 4!), Or pony trek along the shores of Loch Ard, walk beneath the towering forest or cycle along Britain’s largest off-road cycle path! The stunning expansive space encompasses mountain and moorland, forest and woodland, rivers and lochs. With scenic routes and many different ways to explore, Queen Elizabeth Forest Park is a must-see.

Tyndrum Hills

Tyndrum Hills are a mountain range located southwest of Tyndrum, within the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. These stunning hills are known for views of the famous Ben Lui. Located in the southwestern part of Tyndrum, this trail is a challenging yet rewarding walk, to say the least.

The Tyndrum Hills include Ben Lui, Beinn a’ Chelibh, Ben Oss, Ben Dubhchraig, and Benn Chuirn. For craggy hills, stunning sights of a family of mountains and a challenging exercise, this is the trail for you.

Tyndrum Gruffalo Trail

Set in a small and quaint patch of woodland, Tyndrum Gruffalo Trail is just a short walk from the famous Green Welly Stop in Tyndrum. It’s an enjoyable walk and a great place for the little ones to stretch their legs.

It’s only a short 15-minute trail, but is certainly a lot of fun for the kids to follow the stories of the Wee Broon Moos and other characters, eventually ending with the huge 7ft wooden Gruffalo! Warning: it can get pretty muddy, though, so make sure you’ve got your wellies. With no clear trail path, it’s best to take very young infants in a carrier or sling rather than a pram.

Duncryne Dumpling Trail

Duncryne Hill, otherwise known as The Dumpling, is only one hour away from Tyndrum in the car. It is a short climb which offers stunning views across Loch Lomond and the islands with Ben Lomond in the distance.

The trail consists of a path through the forest which can get quite muddy so make sure you’ve dressed appropriately. It’s only a short climb to the summit and the views are superb. The path leading to the hill has recently been resurfaced, making it a smooth-sailing trial to take.

Enriched with an abundance of wildlife and breathtaking views, Tyndrum is home to many beautiful trails that you can walk with the family or do solo – if you’re up for a challenge.
