Just a 20 minute drive from Oban Holiday Park sits Dunstaffnage Castle – one of Scotland’s oldest stone castles!
This mass of masonry guards the seaward approach from the Firth of Lorn to the Pass of Brander. The castle was built before 1240, most likely by Duncan MacDougall, son of Dubhgall, Lord of Lorn, and grandson of the great Somerled, the self-styled ‘King of the Isles’.
The castle has a rich and detailed history, with its walls telling tales of famous guests, from Clan Chiefs to Flora MacDonald.
